When we say the “art movement” we mean that the artist did not work alone, rather was a part of a movement or a group that shared certain ideas. An art movement can be characterized by a similar painting styles, similar ideas or themes that recur. All art movements were developed by the art movement that came before and brought innovations related to the world of art. For example, Impressionist artists painted different works but everyone avoided using black paint. These ideas exposed new movements.
